SEPTEMBER 21, 2026 Eleven Percent for a Hole in Glass Intel jumped in Monday premarket and closed up about 11 percent on reports that it will work with Taiwan's AU Optronics on Micro LED packaging built into glass substrates — embedding chips in glass and wiring them with through-glass vias, aimed at co-packaged optics for AI datacenters. The engineering is real and genuinely important. The announcement is not an announcement: it came from a Taiwanese newspaper, Intel declined to comment, and nobody has put a contract, a date or a dollar figure on the record.
