Abraham's wife, and the only woman in the Hebrew Bible whose age at death is recorded (127, Genesis 23:1). ⚠ Hebrews 11 makes her the subject of one of the New Testament's sharpest textual questions: whether verse 11 says SHE received power by faith (the nominative, which most editions and every version on this shelf print) or that Abraham received it TOGETHER WITH her (the dative, which the SBLGNT prints). What decides it is a phrase about anatomy — the power is 'for the sowing of seed', a father's part in Greek usage. The question has weight because Genesis is unsentimental about her: told she will bear a son at ninety, she LAUGHS (18:12), and then denies laughing. Isaac's name means 'he laughs'.
