The speaker of Ecclesiastes, and strictly a TITLE rather than a name: a feminine-form participle of qahal, to assemble, so 'the one who convenes an assembly' — hence the Greek Ekklesiastes and the KJV's 'the Preacher'. ⚠ The book never calls him Solomon. It says 'son of David, king in Jerusalem' (1:1) and has him speak as a king who tried everything, which is why the tradition assigned it to Solomon; but the Hebrew is late — it carries Persian loanwords like zeman — which places the writing centuries after Solomon even if the persona is his. The rabbis argued about admitting the book at all, and the closing verses (12:9-14), which speak ABOUT Qoheleth in the third person and add a conventional moral, look very much like a later hand making it safe to keep.
