From Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter. Called by Jesus with 'Follow me,' he in turn finds Nathanael and answers his doubt with 'Come and see.' ⚠ His best-known line comes at the Last Supper: 'Lord, SHOW US THE FATHER, and that is enough for us' (John 14:8) — a reasonable request, and it lands badly. The answer is the sharpest thing said to any disciple in the chapter: 'I am with you all this time and you have not come to know me, Philip?' He is also the one Jesus tests before feeding the five thousand (John 6:5-7), and the one the Greeks approach when they want to see Jesus (John 12:21). In all three he is the disciple who does the arithmetic, and in all three the arithmetic is not the point. ⚠ Not to be confused with Philip the evangelist of Acts 6 and 8, a different man with the same name.
