One of the seven nations of Deuteronomy 7:1, and the only one of them absent from the table of nations — they are not listed among Canaan’s sons at Genesis 10, though they appear in the land from Abram’s time onward (Genesis 13:7, already on these pages, has the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelling in the land while Abram and Lot separate). ⚠ The name may not be an ethnic one at all: it resembles perazi, an unwalled-village dweller, which would make it a description of how a population lived rather than of who they were. That is a proposal rather than a settled reading, and the Bible itself always treats them as a nation alongside the others.
