Pashhur son of Malchiah

NOT the Pashhur of the stocks (that was the son of Immer, ch. 20) — a second official of the same name, sent by Zedekiah during the final siege to ask Jeremiah for a miracle (21:1). The book's editors filed the two Pashhur scenes side by side, seventeen years apart — the scroll's own catchword filing system. This Pashhur has a future: he stands among the officials who have Jeremiah thrown into the cistern as a defeatist (38:1-6) — in the very verse where a 'Gedaliah son of Pashhur' also appears, whose clay seal-impression was excavated in the City of David's destruction ash.
