'Servant / worshipper of Jehovah' (Oved-Yah) — the author of the SHORTEST book in the Hebrew Bible (21 verses, one chapter), and one of its most anonymous. ⚠ Nothing is known about him but his name, which is a job description rather than a biography; there are about a dozen Obadiahs in the Old Testament — including the God-fearing steward of Ahab's palace who hid a hundred prophets from Jezebel in two caves (1 Kings 18:3-4) — and none can be securely matched to this one. His whole book is a single oracle against EDOM for standing by while Jerusalem was sacked, and its first nine verses run almost word for word alongside Jeremiah 49:7-22 (which prophet borrowed, or whether both drew on a lost older oracle, is unsettled — the majority favour a common source). The Vulgate and Douay spell the name Abdias.
