The city that comes DOWN. It is not built in Revelation 21 and nobody enters it from outside — it descends out of heaven from God, already finished, 'adorned like a bride for her husband' (21:2). ⚠ Its dimensions are the argument: twelve thousand stadia in length, breadth AND height (21:16) — about 1,400 miles each way — with a wall of 144 cubits. That is 12 x 1,000 and 12 x 12, and it makes the city a CUBE. ⚠ The only other cube in the Bible is the Holy of Holies, twenty cubits each way (1 Kings 6:20), the room one man entered once a year. The chapter takes those proportions and expands them to the size of the known world, then says in words at 21:22 what it has already said in numbers: there is no sanctuary in it, because the whole city is one. ⚠ The gates carry the twelve tribes and the foundations the twelve apostles, and nothing in the text reconciles or ranks them. The gates never shut, because there is no night to shut them against — and the same chapter says nothing common will enter. Revelation holds both sentences twenty verses apart and does not adjudicate.
