'Who is like God?' — an angel named after a rhetorical question, mi-kha-El, whose answer is NO ONE. In Daniel's vision-frame he is 'one of the chief princes' who fights the unseen 'princes' of Persia and Greece (10:13, 21), and at the end 'the great prince who stands over the sons of your people' (12:1) — Israel's assigned guardian-advocate, standing up as the time of distress opens. One of only two angels the Bible names (Gabriel is the other). The New Testament gives him two more scenes: 'Michael the archangel' disputing over the body of Moses (Jude 9), and the war in heaven — 'Michael and his angels fought against the dragon' (Revelation 12:7).
