A Levite who led a revolt against the authority of Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, claiming the whole congregation was holy and needed no mediators; the earth opened and swallowed his company alive, and fire consumed the two hundred and fifty men holding censers (Numbers 16). ⚠ What happened to Korah HIMSELF is not stated by that chapter: v32 says the earth took "every human being who belonged to Korah", and he was among the censer-bearers of v18. Numbers 26:10 says the earth took him too, and adds that his sons did not die — which is why the Psalter has a collection attributed to them; Deuteronomy 11:6 retells the day without him. Jude makes him the type of rebellion against God-given leadership: the false teachers 'perished in the rebellion (antilogia) of Korah' (1:11) — the third of his three named ruins, after Cain's murder and Balaam's greed.
