The wife Abraham takes after Sarah's death (25:1; called a 'concubine' at 1 Chronicles 1:32) — mother of six sons who become the peoples of the Arabian desert and the eastern trade routes: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, MIDIAN, Ishbak, and Shuah, with grandsons Sheba and Dedan. Chief among them is Midian — so the Midianites who buy Joseph, and among whom Moses later shepherds and marries (see Midian), descend from Abraham himself. Abraham gives everything to Isaac and sends Keturah's sons 'eastward, to the land of the east' with gifts (25:6): the promise is not divided, but the old man's line still fans out into a dozen nations, as he was told it would.
