Kadesh

The great oasis of the north-east Sinai / Negev frontier — Kadesh-barnea, usually identified with the springs at Ein el-Qudeirat / Ein Qadis. Named in the war of the kings as En-mishpat, 'spring of judgment' (14:7); a fixed point for Beer-lahai-roi (16:14); and, centuries on, the wilderness base-camp of the Exodus generation (Numbers 13-20). ⚠ Numbers 34:4 uses it as a survey marker rather than a camp: Canaan's southern border runs SOUTH of Kadesh-barnea, which leaves the oasis Israel waited at for so long sitting just outside the land it was waiting to enter.
