'Jehovah is God' (Yo'el) — son of Pethuel, and one of the most anonymous figures in the Bible. ⚠ His heading gives NO KING, which every other dated prophetic book does, and nothing inside the book supplies one: no reigning monarch, no named empire, no datable event. Proposals for when he wrote therefore run from the NINTH century to the FOURTH — a spread of five hundred years — argued from the same silences read in opposite directions. What the book does show is a prophet addressing a POPULATION and a PRIESTHOOD rather than a court, in a Judah whose life revolves around the temple's daily offering. He is quoted at Pentecost (Acts 2:17-21, from Hebrew 3:1-5) and by Paul at Romans 10:13.
