A prophet from Gibeon who confronted Jeremiah in the temple, in the sight of the priests and all the people, with a detailed counter-prophecy: within two years the vessels, Jeconiah, and all the exiles would return, because Jehovah had 'broken the yoke of the king of Babylon' (Jeremiah 28:1-4). He is introduced with full credentials — a named father, a hometown, the same title 'the prophet' the text gives Jeremiah throughout the chapter — and nothing marks him as false until the confrontation itself. ⚠ He does not argue back when challenged; he acts, physically breaking the wooden yoke off Jeremiah's neck as a counter-sign (28:10). Jeremiah's reply escalates the same oracle into iron rather than contradicting it, and delivers a public, near-term, checkable verdict: 'this year you will die, because you have spoken rebellion against Jehovah' (28:16). He died two months later, in the seventh month of the same year (28:17) — one of the only prophecies in the Bible whose fulfillment is reported inside the same chapter that made it. The text never says whether he believed his own message or invented it knowingly; the charge against him is that Jehovah did not send him, not that he was insincere.
