Ezion-geber

A wilderness camp named in this project’s own itinerary chapter (Numbers 33:35-36), the last stop before Kadesh — and, centuries later, Solomon’s own Red Sea port, from which his ships sail to Ophir for gold (1 Kings 9:26-28, not yet on these pages). The exact tell is debated (Tell el-Kheleifeh is the traditional candidate, though later surveys have questioned whether it alone can carry the whole port’s history), but the site’s general location, at the head of the gulf, is not in serious dispute.
