The Emim

‘Terrors’ — the Moabites’ own name for the Rephaim who lived in their land before them, ‘a people great and many and tall as the Anakim’ (Deuteronomy 2:10-11). The chapter is careful to distinguish the LABEL from the CATEGORY: Emim is what the Moabites called them; Rephaim is what everyone else called the same kind of people. ⚠️ The shelf splits on whether to keep the name or resolve it: KJV, Geneva and the Douay-Rheims all read ‘giants’ at v11; this translation keeps ‘Rephaim’ transliterated, with ASV and the NWT.
