Rebekah's nurse — a servant who appears twice, both times in silence and both times honored past her station. She is the unnamed nurse sent along when the young Rebekah leaves home for Isaac (24:59), and she surfaces once more, now in the aged Jacob's camp, only to die and be buried under an oak below Bethel that is named for the mourning: ALLON-BACUTH, 'the oak of weeping' (35:8). Rebekah herself gets no death-scene in Genesis; her old nurse gets a named tree and a page of tears — the Bible pausing over a life the world would have walked past.
