Abram pursued the eastern kings as far as Hobah, 'north of Damascus' (14:15) — the ancient Aramean city, already a fixed landmark in the patriarch's day. The north-south corridor past Damascus is the very road Abram had come down from Haran on his migration into Canaan (retraced in the Expedition Abraham film catalogued on the Ur and Abram entries) — here it simply runs the other way: the route up which the eastern kings retreated, and he chased them.
