The woman whose household brought Paul the news of the Corinthian quarrels — 'it has been made clear to me… by Chloe's people' (1 Corinthians 1:11). The Greek says only 'those of Chloe': her slaves, freedmen or dependants, travelling on her business between Corinth and Ephesus. ⚠ Two things follow from the way she is named. She was evidently a woman of standing whom the Corinthians would recognise without introduction; and Paul chose to name his source rather than protect it, so the congregation knew exactly who had been talking. Nothing else about her survives — a name, a household, and one of the more consequential pieces of gossip in history.
