Kefar Nachum, 'village of Nahum' — a fishing town on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee that becomes the base camp of Jesus' whole Galilean ministry ('his own city,' Matthew 9:1). It enters this Gospel by a travel-verse (John 2:12) and hosts the bread-of-life discourse in its synagogue (John 6:59); the synoptics add Peter's house and a string of healings — and Jesus' verdict on the town that saw the most and believed the least: 'more bearable for Sodom' (Matthew 11:23-24). The excavated site — the basalt-and-limestone synagogue and the house-church over Peter's house — is among the best-preserved Gospel settings anywhere.
