When the twelve return from Canaan and the assembly starts shouting, Caleb HUSHES them and says the land can be taken (Numbers 13:30) — and he disputes none of the report's facts, only its conclusion. He and Joshua are the only two of the twelve who live to enter the land, forty years later. ⚠ He is repeatedly called 'the Kenizzite' elsewhere, and Kenaz is listed in Genesis 36 among the chiefs of EDOM — so the most famous loyalist of the wilderness generation may well be, by descent, an outsider absorbed into Judah. The Bible never comments on it. Hebron, the town he reaches in this chapter and where the Anakim are living, is the town he is eventually granted (Joshua 14, not yet on these pages). ⭐ Numbers 34:19 is the payoff: forty years after he was sent to LOOK at the land, he is the first man named on the roster appointed to DIVIDE it, heading a list of ten. ⚠ He is also one of only three on that list never given the title nasi, chieftain, which v18 had just required of every tribe.
