The Avvim

A village people who ‘lived in villages as far as Gaza’ until the Caphtorim wiped them out and settled in their place (Deuteronomy 2:23) — the chapter’s fourth and structurally odd case: no ‘reckoned as Rephaim,’ no height comparison, just a name and a displacement. ⚠️ The Douay-Rheims, following the Vulgate, reads an entirely different name — ‘the Hevites’ — one of the shelf’s sharper divergences in this chapter.

in the text Deut 2:23
