The parents of MOSES, AARON, and Miriam — Levites of the clan of Kohath. The genealogy of Exodus 6 names them at the center of its priestly line: 'Amram took Jochebed his father's sister as his wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses' (6:20). ⚠️ It is an aunt-nephew marriage that the later law will forbid outright (Leviticus 18:12); the narrator records it without embarrassment, as he records Jacob's marriage to two sisters, because the law had not yet been given. Jochebed is the mother who hid her son three months and set him in the ark of bulrushes, and was then paid to nurse her own child for Pharaoh's daughter (2:1-10); Hebrews 11:23 praises the parents' faith in not fearing the king's edict.
