Son of Ahab and Jezebel, king of Israel for barely two years (c. 853-852 BC). His whole recorded reign is a fall through a roof lattice and its consequences: injured, he sends to Baal-zebub of Ekron for a prognosis, is intercepted by Elijah, sends three companies of fifty to bring the prophet in, and dies childless, succeeded by his brother Jehoram. ⚠ Not to be confused with the AHAZIAH of Judah, his nephew and namesake, who reigns a few years later (2 Kings 8-9) — two kings of the same name in the two kingdoms, one of several such collisions that make the chronology of Kings hard.
