Agag

A king of Amalek, named at Numbers 24:7 as the standard Israel's king will exceed: 'his king shall be higher than Agag'. ⚠ The name may be a royal title rather than one man's name, like Pharaoh — which matters, because the Agag everyone remembers lives centuries later, in 1 Samuel 15, where Saul defeats the Amalekites and spares their king against instruction, and loses the kingdom for it. ⭐ That chapter is where Numbers 23:19's note also had to go, for an unrelated reason: it is the chapter that argues God does not relent while stating twice that he did. Two of Balaam's oracles reach the same chapter of Samuel by two different roads.
