Admah

One of the five ‘cities of the plain’ east of the Dead Sea, listed beside Sodom, Gomorrah, Zoar and Zeboiim among the kings Chedorlaomer’s coalition fought (Genesis 14:2, already on these pages). Genesis 19’s own narrative of the actual destruction names only Sodom and Gomorrah; Admah and Zeboiim are folded back into the disaster later, first at Deuteronomy 29:22 and again at Hosea 11:8 (not yet on these pages), where Jehovah asks how he could ever treat Israel ‘like Admah’ — the name surviving into poetry as a byword for total destruction, long after its own story dropped out of the narrative. Like Sodom’s own entry on these pages, no site is settled on here as its location; it is not plotted on the atlas.

in the text Gen 14:2 Deut 29:22
