Abarim

The ridge on the eastern side of the Jordan valley from which Moses is told to look at the land he will not enter (Numbers 27:12). The name means roughly THE CROSSINGS or the regions beyond — a range named from the point of view of somebody on the other side of the river. ⚠ Deuteronomy 32:49 names the specific summit as Mount Nebo, and Deuteronomy 34 is where the instruction given here is finally carried out. ⭐ The geography is doing the theology: Moses is sent up the one place from which the whole land is visible and no part of it reachable, and the order of the two clauses in v12-13 — see it, then be gathered to your people — is the sentence and the mercy in the same breath.

in the text Num 27:12
