zimah זִמָּה zimah

DEPRAVITY — deliberate, premeditated sexual wrongdoing, from a root meaning 'to plan, devise'; the word names not an act alone but the calculation behind it. Leviticus 18:17 uses it for one specific case (a man taking a woman and her daughter, or her granddaughters), distinct from this chapter's general umbrella term to'evah, 'abomination.' KJV and NIV both read 'wickedness'; ASV has 'lewdness.' Ezekiel later makes zimah practically a technical term for calculated sexual betrayal (Ezekiel 23, not yet on these pages) — this chapter is the word's first appearance on these pages. → first discussed at Lev 18:17
