A SACRIFICE — specifically a slaughtered animal offered to God, and usually a shared FEAST: most of a zevach was eaten by the worshippers, so it names both the offering and the meal around it. ⚠ Zephaniah 1:7-8 turns the happy image inside out: 'Jehovah has prepared a ZEVACH, he has consecrated his guests' — but here JUDAH is the sacrifice on the altar, and 'his guests' are the invading army invited to the feast. The people who assumed they were coming to dinner are the meat.
