SEED — grain sown, offspring, descendants; from zara, to scatter seed. ⚠ It is the root of JEZREEL (Yizre'el, 'God sows'), and Hosea works both edges of it: in 1:4 the name is a sentence of judgment because of the blood spilled in that valley, and in 2:25 the same name becomes the promise 'I will SOW her for myself in the land.'
