A SEASON, an appointed time — a late word borrowed from Persian, rare in the Hebrew Bible and confined to its latest books (Ecclesiastes, Esther, Nehemiah, Daniel). Ecclesiastes 3:1 uses it once and then switches to the ordinary et for the twenty-eight clauses that follow, so the verse has two different words for time; English has to repeat 'time' or lose the pair. → first discussed at Ecclesiastes 3:1
