A HORROR — an object of trembling, from a root meaning to shake. ⭐ With its preposition, le-za’avah, it stands in seven verses of the Hebrew Bible: Deuteronomy 28:25, a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth; Jeremiah 15:4, 24:9 and 29:18 (both already on these pages) and 34:17, all four with Deuteronomy’s whole phrase; Ezekiel 23:46; and 2 Chronicles 29:8. ⚠ In all six of the later verses the scribes wrote the letters in one order, ze’vah, and marked the word to be read in another, za’avah; Deuteronomy alone spells it as it is read. The KJV reads ‘removed into all the kingdoms’, taking the shaking for motion, the Douay and Geneva ‘scattered’, the ASV ‘tossed to and fro’, the NIV ‘a thing of horror’, the NWT 1984 ‘a frightful object’; the RV 1909 «sacudido», the RV60 «vejado», the TNM 1987 «objeto aterrador». → first discussed at Deut 28:25
