FRESH, pressed oil — the harvest word, third of the standing grain-wine-oil triad (dagan, tirosh, yitzhar) that names the whole produce of the land in tithe and blessing texts (Deuteronomy 7:13, not yet on these pages). Deliberately NOT shemen, the word for the oil actually poured on a priest's or king's head at an anointing (Exodus 29:7, not yet on these pages) — a distinction most English versions erase at Zechariah 4:14's beney ha-yitzhar, 'sons of yitzhar,' printed as 'the two anointed ones' though no anointing verb or noun appears in the phrase at all.
