YHVH יְהוָה YHVH (the Tetragrammaton)

The personal name of God (יהוה), first here at 2:4. Most English Bibles hide it behind the title 'the LORD' (small caps); this translation restores it as Jehovah — the traditional English form since about the 1200s, used throughout the ASV and by the NWT. ('Jehovah' is a hybrid, the consonants with Adonai's vowels; scholars reconstruct the original as 'Yahweh.') The full discussion is on the Dear Mr. Librarian page. → first discussed at Gen 2:4
