The KJV guessed 'MULES' (from the donkey context); the NIV and most moderns read 'hot springs' (from an Aramaic cognate yamma, followed by the Vulgate's aquae calidae); the Samaritan and Syriac have 'water.' No one is sure — a clean example of how a single rare word, appearing once in the whole Bible, can leave the versions honestly guessing.
