THANKSGIVING, praise — from the same root as Judah's own name (Leah names her fourth son 'this time I will PRAISE Jehovah', Genesis 29:35, already on these pages). Here it names a specific SUBTYPE of the peace-offering (Leviticus 7:12-15): brought not for a vow or spontaneous generosity but specifically to thank God for something already received, and marked by its own bread — unleavened cakes AND, uniquely, leavened loaves too (v13) — and its own strict deadline, eaten the same day it is offered, none left until morning. ⚠ The word becomes one of the most common in the Psalms, where 'a sacrifice of todah' is offered in WORDS rather than meat (Psalm 50:14, 23, not yet on these pages) — the ritual act supplying the vocabulary for a purely verbal one. → first discussed at Lev 7:12
