tektōn τέκτων tektōn

A CRAFTSMAN, builder — broader than English 'carpenter' suggests, covering work in wood, stone, or both; the ordinary trade of a small-town builder rather than a narrow specialist. 'Is not this the tektōn's son?' (Matthew 13:55) is the Nazarenes' whole objection compressed into one word — they know exactly what family, what trade, what house he comes from, and that familiarity is presented as the actual obstacle to hearing him. → first discussed at Matt 13:55
