LITTLE GIRL, GET UP — Aramaic, the language Jesus actually spoke, transliterated directly into the Greek text and then translated for the reader. ⚠ Mark does this only a handful of times in the whole Gospel — the same pattern marks ‘Boanerges’ at 3:17 and ‘Ephphatha’ at 7:34 — preserving the actual sound of what was said before explaining it, as if the original words themselves are part of what is being reported, not just their meaning. → first discussed at Mark 5:41
