TO HANG, TO HANG UP — and in Deuteronomy 21:22–23 it is not a method of execution. The man is put to death FIRST and then hung on a tree, so what the law regulates is the public display of a corpse, and what it regulates about it is duration: not overnight. ⭐ The passive participle taluy, one hanged, stands in four verses of the Hebrew Bible — this one; Joshua 10:26 (not yet on these pages), five kings left hanging on five trees until evening; 2 Samuel 18:10 (not yet on these pages), Absalom caught by his head in a terebinth; and Song of Solomon 4:4, a thousand shields hung on a tower. ⚠ The Deuteronomy verse’s reason-clause, a curse of God is one hanged, is the sentence Galatians 3:13 (not yet on these pages) quotes to say that Christ became a curse — and Paul’s Greek adds ‘everyone’ and drops Elohim, so the curse in his citation has no named author.
