BLIGHT and MILDEW — two crop diseases that travel as a pair: shiddafon, the scorching of grain by the hot east wind (the root of the blasted ears in Pharaoh’s dream), and yeraqon, the yellow-green of a sick leaf. ⭐ Shiddafon stands in five verses of the Hebrew Bible — Deuteronomy 28:22, Solomon’s prayer at 1 Kings 8:37 with its parallel at 2 Chronicles 6:28, Amos 4:9 and Haggai 2:17 (none yet on these pages) — and yeraqon is beside it every time. ⚠ Yeraqon alone is also what happens to a face: Jeremiah 30:6 (already on these pages) has every face turned pale with the mildew word.
