To ruin — the flood's boomerang verb: the earth ruined itself; God completes the ruin (6:11-13). ⚠ It returns in Jeremiah 18:4, of the vessel that goes wrong under the potter's hand: KJV and NIV both soften it to 'marred', which is what a craftsman would say, but the Hebrew is the flood's word and this translation keeps 'ruined' so the echo stays audible. What is ruined in Genesis is destroyed; what is ruined on the wheel is thrown again. → first discussed at Gen 6:11
