PANELED, ceiled — roofed and lined inside with wood, the mark of a finished, costly house. It is Solomon 'paneling the house with cedar' (1 Kings 6:9) and the doom on the king who must have his rooms 'paneled with cedar' (Jeremiah 22:14). Haggai's rebuke turns on it: the people's own houses are safun, finished and ceiled, while the house of God is charev, a ruin (1:4) — the exact inversion of David's unease at dwelling in cedar while the ark sat in a tent (2 Samuel 7:2). → first discussed at Haggai 1:4
