A LONG SWORD — the two-handed Thracian sabre, not the ordinary blade. ⚠ Seven occurrences in the New Testament, and SIX are in Revelation — the sword out of the mouth of the one on the throne (1:16, 2:12, 2:16, 19:15, 19:21) and the fourth horseman's (6:8). The seventh is Simeon's, spoken over Mary in the temple: 'a rhomphaia will go through your own soul too' (Luke 2:35). The ordinary word for a sword is machaira.
