MYSTERY, secret — an Aramaic word borrowed from Persian, the theme-word of Daniel 2, where it sounds eight times: Nebuchadnezzar's dream is a RAZ that only 'a God in heaven who reveals mysteries' can disclose (2:28). It names not a puzzle to be solved by cleverness but a hidden thing that must be REVEALED from above. ⚠️ The word travels: the Greek Bible and then the New Testament render it MYSTERION — Paul's 'mystery' of the gospel, once hidden and now made known (Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:3-6), is Daniel's RAZ. → first discussed at Dan 2:18
