'Leah's eyes were rakkot' (29:17) — and the shelf cannot agree what that means, because the word runs from 'weak, dull' to 'tender, delicate, soft.' KJV 'tender eyed'; many read it as a DEFECT — weak or watery eyes — set against Rachel's full-bodied beauty, so the sister no one chose is marked from the start; others hear a compliment, 'soft/lovely eyes,' her one loveliness. The Hebrew leaves it open, and the ambiguity is almost kind: whether her eyes were her flaw or her charm, she was the unloved one (see senuah), and it is she God will bless with the sons. → first discussed at Gen 29:17
