To PURSUE, chase, hunt down — a hostile verb. It is what Egypt does to Israel at the sea and what Saul does to David through the wilderness. Psalm 23 ends by taking this word, worn smooth by a lifetime of enemies, and handing it to goodness and chesed: what hunts this man down is mercy.
