UPRIGHT, erect — a rare word occurring only once in the Hebrew Bible, at 26:13: 'I broke the bars of your yoke, and made you walk qomemiyut.' Built on a root for standing tall, it names more than freedom from slavery — a former slave's body itself, no longer bent under a yoke, able to stand at full height.
