PARTIALITY, favoritism — literally 'receiving the face,' judging by appearance, status, or favor rather than by fact; a compound Paul appears to have coined from the Septuagint's idiom 'lift up the face' (Leviticus 19:15), and possibly the earliest use of the noun in surviving Greek. ⚠ Romans 2:11 uses it of God's own impartial judgment — 'there is no prosōpolēmpsia with God' — and the same claim recurs at Ephesians 6:9, Colossians 3:25 and James 2:1, where it becomes a direct command to the church, not just a description of God.
