pelach פלח pelach

To SERVE, worship — Biblical Aramaic, paired throughout Daniel with sgad (bow down); the two verbs together are the chapter's refrain, 'serve...and worship.' ⚠ Occurs 11 times across the Aramaic chapters of Daniel and Ezra: of the three men's refusal here (3:12,14,17,18,28), of Daniel's service to Darius (6:17,20), of universal service to 'one like a son of man' and to the saints of the Most High (7:14,27), and of temple service in Ezra 7 (7:19,24). → first discussed at Dan 3:12
