pilegesh פִּילֶגֶשׁ pilegesh

CONCUBINE — a secondary wife, of lower standing than an ishah but genuinely a wife, whose children could inherit or not depending on the household. ⚠ The word is where Genesis and Chronicles visibly differ: Genesis 25:1 calls KETURAH Abraham's WIFE (ishah), 1 Chronicles 1:32 calls her his pilegesh. This translation prints each book as it stands and does not reconcile them; whether the later book is clarifying her status relative to Sarah, protecting Isaac's line, or simply using the other available word is arguable. → first discussed at 1 Chronicles 1:32
